The Tobacco Use Prevention program focuses on four priority areas:
- Preventing the initiation of tobacco use among young people.
- Promoting quitting among young people and adults.
- Eliminating nonsmokers' exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS).
- Identifying and eliminating the disparities related to tobacco use and its effects among different population groups.
The Tobacco Use Prevention Program receives funding from the Centers for Disease Control and American Legacy Foundation. In 2001 and 2002, the state legislature allocated $500,000 for a comprehensive tobacco prevention program in Salina, Kansas.
